Posing Information

So, you’re not a model, but you’re going to be the talent in an upcoming shoot. How should you stand? How should you sit? What in the world should you do with your hands? Nothing feels natural. I hear you. I’m not a model either.

The videos below are good jumping off points when thinking about posing for photos. Whether you take anything away from them, know that I’ll be right there with you to help guide you through the (often initially awkward) experience.

FAQs

What is your turnaround time?

I try to keep the time between when we do your shoot and when you have your pictures to two weeks. If you order prints, there will be an additional week to process them once they’ve been selected. Applicable time frames are also laid out in all of my Photography Agreements.

Can I order prints and albums from you directly?

Yes you can. I do all my own printing up to 13x19s, and print on matte, satin, metallic, and archival papers. I also mat where necessary or requested.

Currently, I’m not able to print and bind my own albums, nor am I able to do large-scale, specialty prints like canvas or acrylic. So, I design them myself and have them printed through Blurb.

What should I wear?

Honestly, there’s tons of “rules” out there about what photographs well, and all of them are made up. Wear whatever Sparks Joy™ in you. If you’re happy, comfortable, confident, that will come through in your photos.

Here are my made up rules:

  1. Try to avoid narrow stripes, digital displays don’t seem to like them very much.

  2. More neutral and less saturated colors are safe choices.

  3. Keep visible branding to a minimum.

  4. If you’re shooting in a group, it’s best to coordinate, rather than match outright (unless you’re trying to be funny, which I support).

What if I have to cancel a shoot?

I get it, things come up. If you (the client) have to cancel for any reason, just let me know. Heads up though, you will forfeit your deposit; unless you reschedule, in which case, it will be transferred to your next shoot.

If something happens to me (the photographer) to force a cancellation, I’ll give you the option to reschedule, or receive a full refund, including your deposit. Both circumstances are referenced in all of my Photography Agreements.

Do you require a deposit, and if so, when is it due?

I do. I ask for $30 to reserve your shoot date and help me get the ball rolling. The Deposit will be due when you sign your Photography Agreement and send it back to me. The remaining cost of your Photo Package is due prior to your shoot.

What rights will I have to the images taken at my shoot?

Whichever ones you’ve selected in your Talent Agreement (separate from the Photography Agreement). And you will get to select them. It’s your choice whether to retain, share, or relinquish rights relating to Personal Use, Public Display, and Commercial Use.

I prefer agreements, not releases.
